4^th International Piano Duo Festival

International Piano Duo Festival is held every 3 years at Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk. The potential and uniqueness of this event lies in its total dedication to this chamber music formation. There are few events of this type in the world and our event fills this space perfectly offering artistic, pedagogical and scientific values of the highest rank.

The idea of creating the International Piano Duo Festival originated from the need and ambition of continuous development of students and staff in this specialisation at the highest possible level. The desire to present the high level of student piano duos educated at Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk to a wider audience is one of the motivations of the organisers.

The Festival's formula is to invite in each edition of the Festival one world-class master piano duo as SPECIAL GUEST. This duo performs an extraordinary opening or closing recital of the entire event, and for its duration, gives masterclasses to student piano duos of our Academy. So far, special guests of our Festival have been: Piano Duo Tal & Groethuysen, Silver Garburg Piano Duo, Genova & Dimitrov Piano Duo as well as Avedis Kouyoumdjian & Christopher Hinterhuber.

In addition to the presentation of special guests, we also invite piano duos with a recognised artistic brand, who are usually winners of the most prestigious competitions for this formation in the world. So far we have hosted piano duos from Israel, Germany, Japan, Austria, South Korea, France, China, Russia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Argentina, Georgia, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Poland.

Each festival is a multi-day event filled with daily double concerts with a varied and extensive programme.

A dozen or so recitals in each edition, master-classes for students, reviews of piano duos from all over the world – in a word, a real feast of pianists playing TOGETHER.

In 2023, the formula of the Festival will be expanded to include an International Conference on piano duos.

The Conference and Festival are co-financed by the state budget – from the funds of the Ministry of Education and Science, as part of the „Social Responsibility of Science / Excellent Science” programme. Type of Project: Excellent Science – Support for Scientific Cenferences.
